Interior Minister’s Wife Applauds NSCDC Boss on Gender Inclusion

…Urges Stronger School Security as Female Squad Marks 4th Anniversary

The wife of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Mrs. Abimbola Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) under Commandant General (CG) Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi for promoting gender inclusion within the Corps.

Speaking during the 4th anniversary celebration of the NSCDC Special Female Squad (SFS), Mrs. Tunji-Ojo delivered a keynote address highlighting the pivotal role of women in nation-building.

She commended the CG for his commitment to gender-sensitive appointments, noting that women have continued to demonstrate competence and professionalism in their roles.

“Women are nurturers of society and play critical roles in shaping future leaders. The NSCDC under Dr. Audi has created an enabling environment for women to thrive, particularly within the Special Female Squad, which has been instrumental in protecting schools and communities across Nigeria.”

She lauded the Special Female Squad for their exceptional performance, especially in safeguarding educational institutions. Mrs. Tunji-Ojo congratulated the squad on their achievements, attributing their success to Dr. Audi’s visionary leadership, which she said has repositioned the Corps as a formidable force among Nigeria’s security agencies.

Encouraging continued excellence, she urged all female personnel to remain diligent and dedicated, emphasizing their roles as peacebuilders and policy influencers.

She also encouraged senior officers to mentor junior female personnel and prepare them for future leadership responsibilities.

In his remarks, NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi explained that the Special Female Squad was established in response to the increasing vulnerability of schools and the rise in abductions of students and teachers.

“The creation of this squad has significantly enhanced our capacity to protect educational institutions. Notably, the squad has successfully foiled over 48 kidnap attempts across the country,” Dr. Audi stated.

He reassured the public of the Corps’ continued commitment to leveraging credible intelligence to prevent criminal attacks on schools and institutions nationwide.

Earlier, the National Commander of the Special Female Squad, Assistant Commandant Imonike Oluwakemi, expressed gratitude to the CG for his unwavering support through training and logistics. She urged female squad commanders across states to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

The event also featured the presentation of awards and goodwill messages from stakeholders, including Dr. Chris Adigwu, President of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), and Dr. Olusola Okpodu, CEO of School Hunters and a consultant to the United Nations.
