Dr. Kola Oredipe Seeks SWAN’s Support for AFN Board Aspirations

Dr. Kola Oredipe, founder of SamKay Athletics Club and Vice Chairman of Bayelsa State Athletics Association, has called on Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for support in his bid for the South-South zonal representative position on the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board.

During a press briefing at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Oredipe emphasized the importance of SWAN’s backing in promoting his vision and credentials.

“And I think this journey I’m embarking upon, I need the support of SWAN as colleagues.” Kola noted

“I’m contesting for the South-South Zonal Representative position in the AFN to contribute my experience to the growth of athletics in the region. I’m coming into the AFN board with innovation, inclusiveness, and grassroots development plans as I believe regular competitions in the region will help discover, nurture, and grow young athletes.” Dr. Kola concluded.

With a background in journalism, Dr. Oredipe believes SWAN’s support is crucial in this endeavor. He highlighted his plans to bring innovation, inclusivity, and grassroots development to the AFN board, focusing on regular competitions to identify and nurture young athletes in the region.

SWAN President Comrade Benjamin Isaiah pledged the association’s solidarity to Dr. Oredipe, encouraging sports journalists to pursue leadership roles in sports federations. Comrade Isaiah praised Dr. Oredipe’s bold move into sports politics, noting it would inspire other journalists.

Dr. Oredipe’s athletics academy has been actively engaging young athletes through quarterly secondary school meets and providing sporting equipment and kits. His initiative aims to boost athletics development in the South-South region.
