In a renewed effort to shape the character of young Nigerians and promote civic responsibility, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Rivers State Directorate, has taken its school sensitization programme to students in Ahoada East and Omuma Local Government Areas.The outreach, held on May 14 and 19, targeted schools across the two LGAs and focused on strengthening national consciousness, personal responsibility, and ethical conduct among students.
The sensitization campaign tackled a broad range of issues affecting young people and their communities, including national identity, respect for national symbols and the anthem, security awareness, drug and sexual abuse prevention, the hazards of fuel scooping, and the negative impact of examination malpractice and the “get rich quick” mentality.
Other key themes included the importance of personal and environmental hygiene, immunization awareness, and fostering respect for elders and constituted authority—core values the NOA says are essential for national development.

Schools visited during the programme included Rivers State University, Ahoada Campus; G-Give International Technical School; and State School Umudu.
At each location, NOA officers engaged students and school leaders in interactive sessions designed to promote responsible citizenship and instill patriotic values.A highlight of the visit to State School Umudu was a focused session led by the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officer (COMO), who spoke directly to teachers.
The session emphasized the importance of dedication, good work ethics, and the powerful role educators play in shaping future leaders.Among key stakeholders present during the outreach were Dr. Boma Omubo-Pepple, Staff Students Adviser at RSU Ahoada Campus; Mr. Godsgive Nwankwo, Proprietress of G-Give Int’l Technical School; and Mr. Stephen Nwankwo of State School Umudu.
The initiative reflects NOA’s continued commitment to building an orderly, responsible, and value-driven society—one where citizens, young and old, contribute meaningfully to peace, unity, and national progress.
