The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has uncovered activities of some unscrupulous elements posing as missionaries and free health care givers at Community Town Hall Abuloma in Rivers State.
Addressing Newsmen at NAFDAC Office in Port Harcourt, the South South Zonal Director of the Agency, Pharmacist Chukwuma Oligbu said following a tip off by good spirited individuals the fake care givers using evangelism as cover were giving fake and unregistered eye drops, body cleansers and tablets for the purported treatment of various ailments.

The NAFDAC South South Zonal Director while calling for public support in safeguarding the health of the nation stated that a middle aged woman Mrs Gladies Theophilus has been arrested after a raid by NAFDAC team led by the Rivers State NAFDAC Coordinator, Pharmacist Emmanuel Onogwu.

” I hereby warn the general public to beware of these unscrupulous elements claiming to be evangelists and selling concoctions in the name of medicine to unsuspecting members of the public, these products are not registered or verified by any government body and anybody doing patronizing them is doing so at his or her own peril.”
Pharmacist Oligbu reiterated the commitment of NAFDAC to protect the identity of whistle blowers who expose the activities of fake product producers that jeopardize public health.
