Transfer Rumor: Osimhen to join Chelsea

Chelsea have intensified their efforts to secure Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with ongoing negotiations this week focusing on resolving his €12m-per-year salary demands, a critical barrier to finalizing a transfer for the 2025–26 season. According to Football Transfers, the primary challenge lies in aligning Osimhen’s wage expectations with Chelsea’s internal salary structure, which has complicated the deal despite both sides’ enthusiasm to make it happen.

“Osimhen is eager to join Chelsea, and Chelsea are determined to sign him,” the report stated, noting that “his salary demands are making the agreement complex.” To bridge the gap, Chelsea are exploring innovative contract solutions, such as incorporating performance-based bonuses, to accommodate Osimhen’s expectations while adhering to their wage framework.

The striker, however, is reportedly reluctant to lower his salary without significant incentives included in the deal. These negotiations are pivotal, as Chelsea aim to bolster their attacking options with a proven goal-scorer who has consistently performed at the highest level, including his standout tenure at Napoli, where he led the club to a Serie A title in 2023.

Just two weeks ago, Chelsea were also prominently linked with two of Europe’s brightest young prospects: Liam Delap, a 22-year-old forward who has impressed with 12 goals for a relegated Premier League side, drawing interest from multiple top-flight clubs, and Dean Huijsen, a versatile defender who has enjoyed a remarkable breakout season.

While both players remain on Chelsea’s radar, Osimhen stands out as the club’s top priority, with the board viewing him as a transformative addition to their squad. The outcome of these talks could shape Chelsea’s ambitions for the upcoming season, as they seek to compete for domestic and European honors under their current management.
