Fubara’s Fate: Group Appeals to Him Not to Resign Amid Crisis

The organic support for the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara, has been described as an expression of the people’s dissatisfaction with political happenings in the state, especially the declaration of a state of emergency.

National President of South South Youth Initiative, Mr. Saviour Imeabe, who made this known to our correspondent in Port Harcourt, said the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is a constitutional infraction, and wondered why those behind the oil pipeline explosion at Bodo have not been apprehended.

He said “We were told that there was an explosion that took place which warranted Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency as we speak the Sole Administrator in Rivers State have no been able to indentify the prime suspect or who ever responsible for the explosion we are yet to know the name of the person behind the explosion that lead to the state of emergency in Rivers State”.

Mr. Imeabe, who emphasised that the various protests in the state are not meant to undermine efforts by suspended Governor Fubara for a peaceful resolution of the political impasse in the state, however, explained that the people’s actions are geared toward protecting the interest of the state.

While noting that the suspended governor touched the lives of people positively, especially the civil servants, within the period he was in office, Mr. Imeabe appealed to Governor Fubara not to contemplate resigning, as doing so would affect his future aspirations.

“Rivers people we always do the best we can to protect our state be it today or tomorrow it is our core mandate and responsibility to protect Rivers State in as much as what was done in Rivers state was actually not done in the right way so we cannot support it. We will continue to support His Excellency weather he likes it or not we call on His Excellency not to retire at this point in time because millions of people will be disappointed” he stated.

The National President of South South Youth Initiative said the commonwealth of Rivers State should be effectively utilized to benefit the citizens, rather than being monopolized by an individual.

  1. Nigeria is not a democracy; the 1999 constitution is a dictatorship constitution. Mr. Tinubu simply employed that nefarious document for power grab…and it’s constitutional, unfortunately
