Remo Stars Crowned NPFL Champions

On Sunday evening, Rivers United rivals Remo Stars were officially crowned champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at their home ground in Ikenne, Ogun State, following a commanding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City. The win elevated their season points tally to an unassailable 71, securing their maiden top-flight title with three games to spare. This triumph marks a significant milestone for the club and the Southwest region, as Remo Stars became the first team from the zone to claim the NPFL title since Julius Berger’s victory in 1991.

Remo Stars entered their match against Ikorodu City, nicknamed the Ikorodu Oga Boys, already assured of the championship, having clinched the title in their previous game with a crucial victory over Niger Tornadoes. Sikiru Alimi restored parity in the 37th minute with a well-taken equalizer, and Ibrahim Shuaib gave Remo Stars the lead just four minutes later in the 41st minute. The second half saw birthday celebrant Babatunde Bello add to the festivities, netting the third goal in the 48th minute. Olamilekan Adedayo, whose goal against Niger Tornadoes had sealed the title, capped the performance with the fourth goal in the 67th minute, ensuring a convincing victory and a fitting prelude to the trophy presentation.
