The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas (rtd), has commended workers for their dedication to service and urged labour unions to sustain partnership with the government to maintain industrial peace.
Ibas also said that medical workers in the 23 local government areas of the state would begin to receive correct wages while all local government employees would be paid the approved minimum wage.
The SOLAD stated this during a meeting with the leadership of organized labour unions at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, April 29, 2025.
He pledged sustained implementation of welfare packages for workers under the employ of the state government, adding that the payment of salaries and pensions will be timely.
The Vice Admiral also revealed the approval of the payment of salaries to the newly employed staff at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the Judiciary.
His words: “This administration recognizes workers as critical partners in development. We remain committed to addressing your legitimate concerns within available resources.”

He noted that the challenges confronting the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme ahead of the July 2025 deadline is being addressed.
Ibas promised the resumption of operations of the subsidy removal palliative buses to continue to ease transport difficulties of workers and students with plans to expand the fleet.
The Administrator said a specialized leadership training sessions will be organized for top civil servants in the second week of May 2025 for enhance their capacity for greater productively.
Further, he explained that the N32,000 consequential adjustment for pensioners will be implemented towards clearing outstanding gratuities.
In his remark, the Rivers State charisma of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Alex Agwanwor expressed appreciation for the government’s openness to dialogue and pledged continued cooperation towards achieving mutual goals.
