Chelsea Women Win English League

Chelsea Women have clinched the 2024/25 Barclays Women’s Super League title, showcasing an unparalleled performance with an unbeaten record across 20 matches, securing 17 victories and three draws. With two games still to play, the Blues lead the standings with 54 points, a commanding nine-point gap over Arsenal, who sit in second place with 14 wins and three draws, totaling 45 points. Manchester United claimed third with 43 points, followed by Manchester City in fourth with 39 points.

Chelsea’s dominance was undeniable, as they boasted the league’s stingiest defense, conceding just 13 goals, while their attack was nearly unmatched, netting 54 goals—only Arsenal surpassed them with 56. The team’s remarkable consistency and balance underscored their supremacy throughout the campaign.

On Wednesday, Chelsea proudly announced their triumph on X, stating, “Your 2024/25 Barclays WSL Champions: Chelsea!” This victory marks their sixth consecutive Women’s Super League title, cementing their legacy as one of the most formidable forces in women’s football.

Lucy Bronze’s late header secured Chelsea Women’s sixth consecutive WSL title with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United Women at Leigh Sports Village. The win came after Arsenal’s 5-2 loss to Aston Villa earlier that day, meaning Chelsea needed just a point to clinch the championship.

In a high-intensity match, Marc Skinner’s Manchester United pushed Chelsea hard, but Bronze broke the deadlock, nodding in a corner from Sandy Baltimore to seal the title with two games remaining. The goal was only the tenth conceded by United’s defense and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce this season, with Tullis-Joyce making crucial saves, notably stopping Erin Cuthbert, Aggie Beever-Jones, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd in quick succession early in the second half.

The loss dents Manchester United’s chances of qualifying for the Women’s Champions League, as they trail Arsenal by two points with tough matches against Arsenal and Manchester City ahead. United had opportunities to earn a point, with Melvine Malard nearly capitalizing on a Chelsea error but being thwarted by Naomi Girma and Hannah Hampton, while Grace Clinton missed the follow-up shot.
