Rivers Lawmakers Back Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The legislators expressed their backing for the president in a statement co-signed by the caucus members and presented by Barry Mpigi, the senator from Rivers south-east.

The caucus members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated that their stance was rooted in the achievements thus far under the renewed hope agenda.

They also urged other politicians with presidential aspirations to reconsider, asserting that Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda provides Nigeria with the clearest route to “prosperity” and “progress”.

“We, the members of the National Assembly representing Rivers State, wish to express our sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trust and faith in our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, following his designation as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.”

The statement declares.“We are pleased by the President’s public recognition and praise for the exceptional performance of the Minister of FCT, whom he referred to as the ‘Master of Infrastructure’.

“After thoroughly reviewing the President’s economic policies aimed at revitalizing our previously stagnant economy through his renewed hope agenda, and considering the significant decay he took office with on May 29, 2023, including our unfavorable debt situation.

The alarming inflation figures resulting from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s N22.7 trillion printings via Ways and Means overdraft for the Federal Government between 2015 and 2023, under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“And the severe lack of crucial infrastructure to facilitate food production; we have reached the conclusion that the President’s economic strategy is the best path out of our nation’s social and economic turmoil.

“Moreover, our evaluation firmly indicates that the President’s renewed hope agenda is indeed on course with already noticeable achievements and a reliable foundation that promises significant enhancements in the economic welfare of Nigerians if allotted the required time.

“Additionally, we are convinced that the decreasing inflation rates, the marked reduction in our foreign debt, and an expected growth figure supported by the IMF all signal well for the economy in the coming years.

“As representatives from the National Assembly of Rivers State, we firmly declare our unwavering commitment to supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.”

The caucus expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his intervention in the political turmoil affecting Rivers, acknowledging his actions as a timely step that has paved the way for “peace”.

The Rivers caucus also reflected on their involvement in the 2023 presidential campaign, stating that they campaigned energetically under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, to secure victory for Tinubu.

The lawmakers who endorsed the declaration include Barry Mpigi, Allwell Onyesoh, Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi.
