Easter: Rivers Vicar Urges Residents to Emulate Jesus

Christian across the world are observing the death and resurrection of Jesus which had led to the declaration of Friday 18 to Monday 21 as public holidays by the federal government to mark the Easter festivity.

In Rivers State, the Vicar of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Port Harcourt, Rev. Onimim Frank, had urged residents to imbibe the virtues of Jesus, saying that the virtues of Jesus centered on forgiveness, love, and perseverance.

The Vicar also acknowledged Easter to be the greatest celebration of every Christian because Jesus Christ came and paid the price that no one could pay for himself.

The cleric said: “The price that Jesus paid is centered first on forgiveness. As a Christian, you need not hold your anger till the next day. We should have the spirit of forgiveness, no matter the gravity of the offense.

“Secondly, we should have a love for one another. Right on the Cross, Jesus preached love. And the third one is perseverance. In all the persecutions that Jesus went through, He did not deviate from the assignment He agreed with His Heavenly Father because of perseverance.

So, we should use this season of Easter to learn from Jesus and, at all times, always put God in front of what we do, for with Him, all things are possible. The true meaning of Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a central event in Christianity that symbolizes victory over sin and death, and the promise of eternal life.

This event follows Jesus’ crucifixion, a sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and is a key pillar of Christian faith and theology.
