Court Orders Security Agencies, Chijioke Ihunwo to Maintain Status Quo

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has directed all parties in a pending legal dispute to maintain the status quo ante litem. The condition of affairs before the commencement of the lawsuit pending the hearing of a motion for interlocutory injunction.

The ruling, issued on April 10, 2025, by Justice I. P. C. Igwe, also fixed April 30, 2025, for the hearing of the motion.

The order, given under the Seal of the Court, is intended to preserve the subject matter of the suit and prevent any further actions by either party that could influence the outcome of the case.

In addition, the court granted leave to the claimant, Chijioke Ihunwo, the recently dissolved Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, to serve a writ of summons and other relevant court processes on the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, the Nigeria Police Force, Police Service Commission, State Security Service, and two other parties.

The decision followed a submission by the claimant’s lead counsel, D. O. Okoro, SAN, who appeared in court alongside C. J. Ogum, G. S. Okuru, and C. N. Onu and no legal representation for the defendants.
