Some supporters of Hon Seineri Onengiyeofori George in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State have expressed their readiness to vote in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
Their excitement came after the state Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), approved the appointment of a new chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
What this means is that Ibas’ six-month tenure regime will oversee the conduct of the local government election. However, a date has not been announced for the election.
Hon Seineri was the Accord Party candidate for Asari Toru Ward One Councillorship Seat in the last LG election which took place on November 5, 2024. The election was largely won by the APP, which was the endorsed party of the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.

A cross section of Hon Seineri’s supporters told our correspondent in ASALGA that they believe their candidate will always win in any free and fair election.
They said their candidate is a philanthropist who has economically empowered over half the population of his ward and his people like him.
The supporters also believed that the last LG election which had been nullified by the Supreme Court was characterised by obvious irregularities, adding that the emerged candidates were selected not elected.
The supporters further urged the new chairman and members of the state Independent Electoral Commission to be professional on their new assignment and resist being induced by anything that would compromise the credibility of LG election.
“What we want is free, fair, and unbiased LG election. If Ibas can give us a credible election, his name will be written in gold in the state. As for us, we are ready to vote for our preferred candidate when polling day comes,” they said.
