Nigerian Referee Disguises As Police To Escape Angry Fans

In a shocking incident, the center referee of the Ikorodu City and 3SC match allegedly disguised herself as a police officer to escape the anger of fans who were furious about her officiating. The fans felt that her decisions had cost their team points, and their frustration boiled over into hostility. To avoid potential physical harm, the referee reportedly borrowed a police uniform and slipped through the crowd undetected, making her way to safety.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “terrifying,” saying the referee was lucky to have escaped without being harmed. The incident highlights the intense passion and sometimes volatile nature of football fandom, where emotions can run high, and officials can become targets of anger.

This incident raises concerns about the safety and well-being of referees and the need for better crowd control and security measures to protect officials from abuse and harassment. It also underscores the importance of maintaining a respectful and sporting atmosphere at football matches.

Chaos erupted at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan after a tense 0-0 draw between Shooting Stars SC (3SC) and Ikorodu City FC. Furious 3SC supporters, frustrated by their team’s inability to secure a home win, turned violent. They locked the Ikorodu City players and officials in their dressing room, cut the power supply, and held them hostage in darkness for over two hours.

The visiting team’s players were left stranded, relying on their mobile phone lights for visibility. The situation was further exacerbated by the vandalism of Ikorodu City’s team bus, and one club official reportedly suffered injuries during the unrest.

This incident highlights the darker side of Nigerian football, where passion and frustration can boil over into violence. The behavior of the 3SC supporters raises concerns about fan culture and the need for better crowd control and security measures to protect visiting teams and officials.

The incident also underscores the importance of promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere at football matches, where the safety and well-being of all participants should be prioritized. The NPFL and relevant authorities may need to take steps to address these issues and prevent similar incidents in the future.
