Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has weighed in on the ongoing crisis in the state, saying the feud between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike is rooted in a battle for financial control.
Amaechi made these comments in an interview with DW Africa, questioning why Nigerians haven’t demanded more accountability from the two politicians.
Amaechi also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to impose a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it unconstitutional.
He argued that the president’s actions undermine democracy and set a dangerous precedent for removing elected governors.

The crisis in Rivers State began with a feud between Fubara and Wike, which escalated during the local government elections.
The situation deteriorated to the point where President Tinubu suspended Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Oduan, and all elected lawmakers of the state House of Assembly for six months.
Amaechi believes the president’s actions are motivated by a desire to consolidate power and oust governors who may not support him in the 2027 general election.
He urged the people of Rivers to resist the emergency rule and protest the decision.
