The Defence For Human Rights And Democracy has urged the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, to be transparent and accountable in handling funds meant for Rivers State.
The appointment of Ibas by President Bola Tinubu as the sole administrator of the state was greeted with widespread condemnation, making a lot of people believe that the hidden reason behind the appointment was because of the resources of the state.
With the manner of suspending the political appointees of the state government, many are of the opinion that Ibas was not really sent to rule the state on the basis of restoring law and order as earlier contained in the nationwide broadcast of the president.

DHRD, who also condemned the emergency rule imposed on the state, is calling on the president to reverse it with immediate effect, saying that the people of the state want to see democracy return to the state as quickly as possible.
A statement by the National Chairman of DHRD, Comrade Clifford Christopher Solomon viewed the role played by Tinubu in the crisis of the state as bias.
He said: “DHRD therefore calls on the president to reverse his decision and restore the democratic institutions in the state with immediate effect.
“On the posting of Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Retired) to Rivers State as Sole Administrator, the Defence For Human Rights And Democracy is requesting that he should be transparent, accountable in the finances of Rivers State and be upright as a statesman in the affairs of the state.”
