The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that it invited Nubari Saatah, President of the Niger Delta Congress (NDC), for questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to a statement released by the Command, the invitation was prompted by the NDC’s repeated calls for public protests within Rivers State. The police stated that the move was necessary to seek clarification on the objectives and nature of the planned demonstrations.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful assembly, the Command emphasized its duty to safeguard public safety.
It warned that protests, if not properly managed, could escalate into unrest, potentially providing a platform for individuals with ulterior motives to incite violence, disrupt public order, and endanger lives and property. Organizers, it said, would be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order.
