Nigerian Army Advocates Collective Effort Against Illegal Oil Bunkering

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric-Emekah, has called for coordinated efforts among government agencies, the private sector, and local communities to combat illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.

Speaking at a sensitization workshop on the implications of using illegally refined oil products, organized by the 6 Division Garrison in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Major General Eric-Emekah—represented by the Commander of 106 Division Equipment Support, Brigadier General Effiong Asuquo-Nse—emphasized the devastating economic, environmental, public health, and national security consequences of illegal oil bunkering.

He stressed the need to raise awareness, encourage patriotism, and promote compliance to curb the menace.

In his welcome address, the host, Commander 6 Division Garrison, Sector 3, Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Force, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed—represented by Lieutenant Colonel Orobosa Igheghe—highlighted the significant threat illegal oil bunkering poses to national prosperity, with billions of dollars lost annually.

Brigadier General Ahmed urged stakeholders to collaborate on effective strategies for preventing, detecting, and eradicating illegal oil bunkering in the region and across the country.
