Rivers Police Command Vows to Sustain Security Efforts, Warns Against Criminal Activities

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to maintaining peace and stability in the state.

Speaking at a press briefing, he commended the joint patrol operations of the Police, Armed Forces, and other sister agencies, emphasizing their crucial role in enforcing the state of emergency and preventing potential threats to law and order.

CP Adepoju assured residents that the heightened security measures were temporary and aimed at deterring troublemakers.

“This phase of security activities is a necessary step to prevent any breakdown of law and order. We are committed to ensuring a more peaceful and secure Rivers State.”

Highlighting recent achievements, the Commissioner detailed successful operations against criminals involved in vandalism, kidnapping, and illegal oil refining.

“On March 16, 2025, security operatives thwarted an attempt by vandals to destroy a pipeline in Allu-Rumuekpe, Ikwerre LGA. The quick intervention led to the explosion of the device, resulting in the deaths of the perpetrators.

“On March 21, 2025, security forces raided a hideout along Omoku Road in Ahoada East LGA, arresting eight male suspects and rescuing six kidnapped victims. Recovered items included firearms, motorcycles, and communication devices.

“On March 19, 2025, two suspects were arrested in Onelga LGA with four dynamites, detonating devices, and other explosives. Security agencies destroyed 30 illegal refining sites, 55 ovens, 20 reservoirs, 50 dug-out pits, and seized 100,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 10,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).”

CP Adepoju urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence on criminal activities. He warned against acts of vandalism, emphasizing their negative impact on economic growth and investor confidence.

“The protection of critical national assets is the responsibility of all law-abiding citizens. We must take proactive steps to safeguard our state from saboteurs.”

In a bid to curb crime, the police announced a targeted enforcement operation against unregistered and improperly numbered vehicles. The Commissioner revealed that, effective in seven days, any vehicle without valid registration would be impounded.

He advised vehicle owners to take advantage of the grace period to comply with regulations.

CP Adepoju assured residents that security forces, in collaboration with other agencies, would continue to clamp down on criminal elements. “We are fully prepared to uphold law and order, and those involved in criminal activities will be brought to justice.”
