As the world celebrates International Happiness Day today, the communities are embracing the message that happiness is not a destination, but a journey we take every day.
The United Nations declared March 20th as the International Day of Happiness in 2012. Every year, people around the world come together to celebrate the International Day of Happiness, a day dedicated to joy, kindness, and emotional well-being. It’s more than just a celebration; it’s a heartfelt reminder that happiness isn’t just a personal emotion but a powerful force that connects us all.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s International Day of Happiness, Caring, and Sharing a psychologist at the University of Port Teaching Hospital, UPTH, Mr. Prince Chikeru noted that these values are essential for building strong relationships, and promoting overall well-being.

Mr. Chikeru highlighted factors that influence happiness while also stressing the significant impact of happiness on mental health.
On their part, Mr. White Usifo and Omoike Didi said happiness is a personal effort that requires intentional actions and decisions adding that everyone should prioritize their happiness.
According to the World Happiness Report 2024, Nigeria ranks 102 out of 156 countries in terms of happiness.
The day serves as a powerful reminder that happiness is not a luxury, but a necessity.
