The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports of riots and an alleged attack on the residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing them as false and aimed at inciting unrest.
Over the weekend, social media was flooded with claims that angry protesters had set fire to Wike’s property in Port Harcourt following the ongoing political turmoil in the state. However, the state police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, refuted the reports, stating that no such incident had occurred.
“The Command categorically states that this report is entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to spread fear among law-abiding residents,” she said in a statement, urging the public to disregard the claims.

Despite the police’s assurances, sources within Rivers State confirm growing tensions, with some political actors hinting at plans to target Wike’s properties. Although no attacks have taken place, insiders suggest that certain groups are waiting for directives before taking action.
The escalating hostility follows Wike’s recent comments at a political gathering, where he warned Governor Siminalayi Fubara to brace for more political battles. His remarks have further fueled speculation that the crisis in Rivers State is far from over.
While the police maintain that peace prevails in the state, the political climate remains fragile, with concerns that the situation could escalate if not carefully managed.
