DHRD Urges Fubara, Wike, Others To Stop The Political War

By Mark Lenu

The Defence For Human Rights And Democracy has urged the political actors in Rivers State to stop the ongoing political war and come to the negotiating table in the interest of peace in the state and country at large.

A statement signed by the Chairman of DHRD, Comrade Clifford Christopher Solomon, also advised that Martin Amaewhule led lawmakers to halt their impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

He said:”The Defence For Human Rights And Democracy (DHRD) is deeply worried over the deteriorating political crisis in Rivers State between the current governor of the state Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, and the immediate past governor of the state and serving minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barr. Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike.

“This crisis that came to public glare in October 2023 has festered for too long with unbearable consequences. The most affected in the whole political crisis are the already economically impoverished masses who are struggling to put food on the table.

“The seizure of the Rivers State federal allocation has halted the smooth running of governance in the state. State government workers will not be receiving salaries and likewise the local government workers. This will bring the state to a total economic blockade with far-reaching negativity.

“DHRD, therefore calls on the governor, Wike, and the Rivers State House of Assembly members to return to the negotiating table to resolve whatever are the issues and pave the way for the smooth running of governance in the state for the benefit of all.

“On the Assembly’s indefinite adjournment of its sitting, we ask they reconvene to receive the governor to present the budget before the House for onward deliberation.

“Furthermore, we plead with the Rivers State House of Assembly to rescind and halt the impeachment move for the sake of peace.”
