Rivers State is set to embark on an ambitious 10-day infrastructure drive aimed at revitalizing critical public services and boosting development across the region. The initiative, commencing on Monday, March 3, 2025, underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to sustainable progress even amid recent political setbacks.
The announcement comes shortly after the Supreme Court barred the Central Bank of Nigeria from releasing federal allocations to the state and nullified the local government elections. Despite these challenges, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s government is determined to push forward with its development agenda. The administration has outlined a series of high-impact projects that will enhance housing, security, healthcare, education, and judiciary welfare, thereby improving the quality of life for residents.
Commissioner for Information Joe Johnson explained that the project reflects the administration’s proactive approach to addressing community needs. “Our commitment to infrastructure development and improved public services remains our top priority,” he stated. He encouraged residents and community leaders alike to participate in the festivities, which will feature the unveiling of several key projects.
Over the course of the next 10 days, the government will host inaugurations at pivotal locations such as Port Harcourt City, Obio/Akpor, Khana, and Okrika Local Government Areas, with the initiative extending into Bayelsa State. On March 3, the project will commence with the unveiling of the Government House Staff Quarters at PHALGA. The following day, March 4, will see the inauguration of the State Fire Service Headquarters along with the deployment of new firefighting vehicles.
The momentum continues on March 5 with the handing over of a helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force in Obio/Akpor, reinforcing the state’s commitment to security. On March 6 and 7, new fire service stations at Borokiri and Rumuodonmaya will be commissioned, ensuring enhanced emergency response capabilities. March 10 will mark the debut of the Akpor Monarch’s Palace and Residence in Obio/Akpor, followed by the Judges’ Quarters at PHALGA on March 11.
Healthcare and education also receive significant attention in this drive. On March 12, the state will inaugurate Bori General Hospital in Khana Local Government Area, and on March 13, upgrades at Okrika Grammar School will be celebrated. The program concludes on March 14 with the furnishing and electrification of the Nigerian Law School’s Yenagoa Campus in Bayelsa State.
Despite recent judicial setbacks, the Fubara-led government is steadfast in its pursuit of transformative projects that promise long-term benefits. Residents and stakeholders are invited to join in marking these pivotal milestones as Rivers State charts a new course toward progress and prosperity.
