Chacha Eke Breaks Silence on Mental Health Battle

Popular Nollywood actress Chacha Eke has shared a deeply personal revelation about her battle with mental health, detailing a life-changing experience that left her unable to write for years.

“In 2021, I was on a four-day writing marathon. The words were flowing, my mind was racing, and then—blackout. Not sleep. Not exhaustion. It felt like black magic, a demonic projection,” she recalled. “What followed was 48 hours of aggressive insanity. Violence. Blood. I was rushed to the hospital, and the diagnosis came—bipolar disorder. The psychiatrist said I broke my neurotransmitter.”

As she continued, she described how the diagnosis led to a downward spiral. “Then came the avalanche—anxiety. ADHD. Schizophrenia. My mind, once my greatest asset, became my greatest fear. My creativity vanished. I became scared of words. I couldn’t type. I hated reading.”

For three years, her laptop sat untouched, abandoned. She even considered selling it, but someone close to her refused. “Victor told me to use it. He said it was still good. It felt like he knew I was running,” she admitted.

Her journey to recovery began with small steps. “Last year, I traveled to the UK with my daughter’s laptop, hoping to trick my mind into writing again. A whole month—I never opened it. The fear still had me in chains,” she said. But a friend, Nene, encouraged her to start small. “Try writing on your iPhone notepad instead,” she suggested. “That sounded safe. Less intimidating. So I tried… and I never stopped.”

She also discovered brain puzzle games, which unexpectedly played a key role in her healing. “At first, I played them to pass time, but soon I realized they were doing something deeper. They helped me focus, trained my mind to concentrate again.”

Now, she’s back to doing what she loves. “When I returned to Nigeria, I did something I never thought I would—I lifted my old laptop, dusted it off, and began to type,” she said. “Every word I type on this laptop is a victory. Every folder created is a miraculous comeback. Every doubt and negative voice—silenced.”

Ending on a triumphant note, she declared, “I’m happy to say that I’m back. Same me. Same laptop. Different glory. Thank you, Jesus.”
