FAAN Grills Passenger for Alleged Theft on Port-Harcourt Bound Air Peace Flight

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of a passenger onboard an Air Peace flight for allegedly stealing a phone and money during the domestic flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

In a statement from Air Peace, signed by its Head of Communication, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline expressed deep concern over the increasing number of in-flight thefts despite its ongoing efforts to warn passengers. This latest incident highlights a growing trend that the airline and aviation security are determined to curb.

According to eyewitness reports, the incident unfolded mid-flight when a passenger’s phone and some money were reported missing. Following a quick investigation by the cabin crew and aviation security officers (AVSEC) onboard, the suspect was found in possession of the missing items. A viral video that surfaced online shows the passenger resisting arrest, while fellow passengers shouted, “He stole a phone and money!” The suspect can also be heard denying the allegations.

The aircraft, with the flight number P47190, landed at Port Harcourt International Airport, where the suspect was immediately detained by AVSEC personnel and handed over to airport police for further investigation.

In his statement, Dr. Ndiulo reiterated Air Peace’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and security, stressing that the airline was taking decisive action against the suspect. “Air Peace is deeply concerned by the rising trend of in-flight thefts observed in recent weeks,” he said, adding that the airline is ramping up security measures on all flights. Enhanced surveillance and increased vigilance by cabin crew members are part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to prevent such incidents. Passengers will also see intensified announcements reminding them to secure their belongings and report any suspicious activity.
