Varsity Don describes late Clark as a groomer of generational leaders

By Mark Lenu

An associate Professor with the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Steve Wordu is among those who believed the Niger Delta region will not lack generational leaders because the late Chief Edwin Clark was able to groom a lot of Niger Deltans for effective leadership before his passing was announced on Monday. February 17.

Born on May 25, 1927, in Delta State Nigeria, Chief Clark once served as a federal commissioner for information and thereafter became a vocal mouthpiece for the Niger Delta region until his death.

The university lecturer said: “I will describe the late Chief Edwin Clark as the face of the Niger Delta struggle. I happened to have worked briefly with him under PANDEF and held several meetings with him in his house in Abuja.

“I can tell you that he had contributed immensely in projecting and defending the rights of the people of the Niger Delta.

“Though he was old, old age did not stop him from taking an active part. But since a death has come, it has come. One thing he did very well was his ability to groom people and he made sure that competent people took over from him.

“Today, Dr. Bolade Igali is the head of PANDEF which shows that the late Chief Clark was committed to the development of the Niger Delta people. May his soul rest in peace.”
