By Tina Amanda

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) have arrested a notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect, recovering an operational weapon in the process.

The suspect, identified as Innocent Chigozie, 35, is the leader of a cult gang that has been terrorizing farmlands along Uzo Afor Road in Okahia Community, Elele, Etche Local Government Area. Their criminal activities had instilled fear and panic among residents.

According to police reports, the same gang had previously engaged operatives of the command in a gun battle last year but was repelled.

Chigozie was apprehended on January 30, 2025, at about 06:30 hours following a coordinated intelligence operation. During interrogation, he confessed to owning the recovered exhibits, which included:

One Automatic Pump-Action Gun
Two Live Cartridges
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover more weapons.
