Expert gives reasons behind frequent change of CP since Fubara became governor

By Mark Lenu

Since Siminalayi Fubara became the governor of Rivers State, no fewer than four police commissioners have been deployed to Rivers State in less than 2 years.

Fubara won the 2023 governorship election in the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and was sworn in on May 29 of the same year.

Wondering why the police hierarchy keeps changing commissioners of police in the state, a security expert, Godspower Ipianeh told our correspondent that the power tussle between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike could be one of the reasons.

He also mentioned other reasons as saying that: “l think the power play between Wike and Fubara is one of the reasons for the frequent changing of police commissioner in the state.

“Strategic management could be another reason which implies that some CPs with specific professions could be deployed to an area that needs their kind of profession in order to enhance performance.

“There are also operational techniques that could be looked into before deployment. If the operational techniques of a commissioner of police have been very successful elsewhere, they can be redeployed to another area where such techniques are needed.

“Then another reason is the interest of the Inspector General of Police which can not be ruled out.”
“Each time the governor receives any newly deployed commissioner of police, he tells the CP and his team to remain apolitical and be professional in their duty when combating crime and criminality.
