Two Chelsea Stars Want To Represent Nigeria

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is working against the clock to finalize the international switch of allegiance for Chelsea’s on-loan midfielders, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu. This development comes as both players have been included in the provisional 31-man squad named by newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

With the qualifying matches looming, the NFF is racing against time to complete the necessary paperwork and procedures to ensure that Chukwuemeka and Ugochukwu are eligible to represent Nigeria. The international switch of allegiance is a complex process that requires approval from FIFA, and any delays could jeopardize the players’ participation in the upcoming qualifiers.

The inclusion of Chukwuemeka and Ugochukwu in the Super Eagles’ squad is a significant boost to the team’s midfield, and their availability for the World Cup qualifiers is crucial to Nigeria’s chances of success. The NFF is likely to be working closely with Chelsea and FIFA to expedite the process and ensure that the necessary documentation is completed in time for the players to join the Super Eagles’ camp.

Lesley Ugochukwu, currently on loan to Southampton, has a complex international football history, having represented France at various youth levels. However, as he has not yet played for France’s senior national team, he remains eligible to represent Nigeria at the senior international level. Ugochukwu has already taken the first step towards switching his nationality by submitting the necessary paperwork.

Similarly, Carney Chukwuemeka, who is on loan to Borussia Dortmund, has also initiated the process of switching his nationality. Despite having options to represent England or Canada, Chukwuemeka has chosen to pursue his international career with Nigeria. This decision is a significant boost to the Super Eagles, as Chukwuemeka’s talent and experience will undoubtedly strengthen the team’s midfield.

The decision by both Ugochukwu and Chukwuemeka to switch their nationality to Nigeria highlights the country’s growing appeal to top talents with Nigerian heritage. The Nigeria Football Federation’s efforts to identify and recruit eligible players have been successful, and the inclusion of these two players in the Super Eagles’ squad is expected to have a positive impact on the team’s performance in upcoming competitions.

There is no doubt that the addition of these chelsea Starlets will cement Nigeria’s position as a global Soccer powerhouse.
