African leaders have been advised to see the Executive Orders issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump, particularly those on citizenship and migration, as a wake-up call to focus on building their own countries and creating a more livable environment for their citizens.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, former federal lawmaker Chief Ogbonna Nwuke noted that President Trump’s policies since taking office demonstrated a lack of commitment to Africa’s interests. However, he stressed that rather than viewing this as a setback, African nations should use it as an opportunity to foster collaboration and cooperation for the continent’s development.
Chief Nwuke also pointed out that while the Executive Orders had negative implications for both Americans and foreign nationals, the dominance of the Republican Party in the U.S. government was fueling the rise of far-right ideologies.
