Rivers Angels crush FC Robo 4 – 2 to top NWFL Group B

Port Harcourt, Rivers State –  Rivers Angels are looking like the team to beat in the women’s football league after a convincing 4-2 win against FC Robo at their home ground. This victory puts them right at the top of Group B and makes everyone wonder if anyone can actually stop them this season.

The game at the Sharks Stadium was a real thriller, full of goals, drama, and some amazing individual plays.  Rivers Angels, who had four points from their first two games (winning 2-1 against Ibom Angels and drawing 1-1 with Naija Ratels FC), were determined to show everyone what they’re capable of. FC Robo, coming off two wins in a row against Adamawa Queens and Benue Queens, were also ready to make their mark.

The game started with a bang. Rivers Angels captain, Polinus Ifeoma, scored a fantastic free-kick in the ninth minute, making the home fans go wild. But FC Robo wasn’t going to back down easily. Kemi Adegbuyi scored just four minutes later, leveling the score and quieting the crowd a bit.

The first half ended in a draw, with both teams attacking but not able to score again.  The second half, though, was a different story. Rivers Angels came out stronger and really put the pressure on FC Robo.

Just five minutes after halftime, Aminat Folorunsho scored a great goal, volleying in a perfect cross from Peace Effiong, putting Rivers Angels back in the lead.  Then, just three minutes later, Ifeoma Ikenokwalu’s powerful free-kick took a lucky bounce off Fasilat Adeyemo and went into the net, making it 3-1.

Rivers Angels kept up the pressure, and in the 65th minute, Effiong scored a penalty after Bukola Adegbite fouled Ikenokwalu in the box.  Adegbite argued the call, but the referee wasn’t changing his mind, and the penalty made it 4-1.

FC Robo didn’t give up. Chidnma Ogbuchi scored a free-kick twelve minutes before the end, giving them a little bit of hope. But Rivers Angels held on tight and won the game.

“We knew we had to play better in the second half, and we did just that,” said Rivers Angels coach Whyte Ogbonda after the game. “The girls showed real grit, and I’m so proud of them.”

FC Robo’s coach, Emmanuel Osahon, admitted that Rivers Angels played better. “We tried our best, but things didn’t go our way,” he said. “Rivers Angels deserved to win, but we’ll be back.”

This win puts Rivers Angels in a great position in Group B and sends a message to all the other teams in the league.  Their strong performance against a good FC Robo team makes people wonder if anyone can actually beat them this season. With their captain, Polinus Ifeoma, saying they’re determined to stay on top, Rivers Angels are definitely a team to watch. They’ve got a good mix of experienced players and talented youngsters, and their fans are hoping for a great season.
