A community leader, Mr. Felix Eredo-Nwakor, has highlighted the importance of resuming oil production in Ogoni land, stressing that it must be done in a way that guarantees fairness and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking on recent efforts by stakeholders to restart oil exploration in the area, Mr. Eredo-Nwakor noted that decades of inactivity due to environmental concerns have created deep divisions. He emphasized that for production to resume successfully, major stakeholders must work together to address long-standing grievances and ensure that local communities benefit equitably.
However, he expressed doubts about the ability of various factions in Ogoni land to collaborate, citing years of distrust, misunderstandings, and neglect by successive administrations. He warned that without a unified approach, any attempt to restart oil production could lead to further conflict.
According to Mr. Eredo-Nwakor, the involvement of Ogoni youths, elders, and key decision-makers is crucial in building a strong front against past injustices. He believes that only through genuine dialogue and commitment can the people reclaim their rights and ensure that their interests are protected.
