The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at all levels of government to adopt the budgeting approach implemented by the Ministry of Interior under Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. This appeal follows the ministry’s impressive financial performance, which the party described as a model for effective governance.
According to a press statement issued by APC spokesperson Darlington Nwauju, the Ministry of Interior achieved remarkable success through a value-driven, bottom-up strategy that eliminated waste and surpassed its N2 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for 2024. The ministry ultimately remitted over N5.6 billion to the federal treasury—more than double its target.
Nwauju praised the ministry for completing multibillion-naira contracts without relying on capital allocations and for prioritizing projects that directly benefit ordinary Nigerians. He emphasized that this focus on needs assessment and people-centered policies made the ministry’s approach a valuable example for other MDAs.
“We believe that adopting this value delivery strategy in budget implementation will help MDAs focus on the true needs of the people and ensure effective utilization of public funds,” Nwauju said.
It is worth noting that the APC also called on the National Assembly to reward the Ministry’s outstanding performance by increasing its allocation in the 2025 federal budget, highlighting the Ministry’s role in overseeing key paramilitary agencies critical to national security.
Further, Nwauju urged Nigerians to actively monitor budget implementation to ensure transparency and effective use of taxpayers’ money. He also encouraged the media to spotlight high-performing ministries, like the Ministry of Interior, while holding others accountable for wastages and corruption.

“The Ministry of Interior’s performance sets a benchmark for public service excellence. It deserves commendation and greater support to exceed its 2024 achievements,” Nwauju concluded.
It bears mentioning that the APC reiterated its commitment to promoting financial prudence and accountability in government, setting a strong example for other ministries to follow.
