Suspected Cultists Kill Vigilante Personnel in Ahoada East LGA

A vigilante personnel identified as Precious Nnamdi was reportedly killed by suspected cultists on Tuesday night, January 14, 2025, at Hospital Road in Ahoada Town, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Sources revealed to our Correspondent that the assailants, armed with guns, intercepted Nnamdi during his patrol and opened fire on him. However, the bullets allegedly did not penetrate his body.

The attackers then resorted to using sticks and iron objects to beat him to death before fleeing the scene.

The incident has heightened tension in Ahoada Town, with residents expressing fear of further violence. Neither of the two dominant cult groups in the area, Iceland and Greenland, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A community source disclosed that the deceased vigilante personnel hailed from the Ihuike Community in Ula-Upata Kingdom, Ahoada East LGA.

The tragic incident underscores ongoing security concerns in the region, with residents calling for urgent intervention to curb cult-related violence.

Meanwhile, The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident. “The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead by a Doctor on duty, he has been deposited in the mortuary. The investigation is ongoing.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered the Area Commander and Tactical units to fish out and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime,” she said.
