Rivers Angels Unveil New Players

Rivers Angels, seven-time champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), have just unveiled their new lineup for the 2024/2025 season, featuring 14 fresh faces. This strategic move is aimed at reclaiming the title they last won in 2021. The team’s new signings include two goalkeepers, two defenders, four midfielders, and six attackers, bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.

Among the notable new recruits is Taiwo Afolabi, the captain of the Flamingos, who made the switch from Delta Queens to join the Port Harcourt-based side. Afolabi is eager to make her debut for Rivers Angels, expressing her readiness to take on Ibom Angels in their opening match.

Additionally, Rivers Angels have secured the services of Taiwo Ajibade and Taiwo Aganmuyi, both of whom inked two-year contracts with the team. The duo joins from Sunshine Queens, further strengthening the team’s roster.

With these new signings, Rivers Angels are poised to make a strong comeback in the NWFL. Their opening match against Ibom Angels kicks off the 2024/2025 season, which promises to be an exciting one for the team and their fans.

Taiwo Ajibade and Taiwo Aganmuyi, the newly signed strikers for Rivers Angels, have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to their former team, Sunshine Queens, for playing a pivotal role in shaping their football careers. Both players were regular starters for Sunshine Queens in the previous season and have credited the team with providing them with invaluable experience that has facilitated a smooth transition to their new team.

In an interview with Sporting Hope, the duo acknowledged the significance of their time at Sunshine Queens, stating, “Sunshine Queens will always remain an important part of us.” They further emphasized the importance of the experience they gained while playing for the team, noting that it has made their transition to Rivers Angels seamless.

Ajibade and Aganmuyi were officially unveiled as part of Rivers Angels’ new squad on Sunday, along with 12 other players. As they embark on this new chapter in their careers, they are grateful for the foundation laid during their time at Sunshine Queens.
