The New Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has urged 119 newly promoted officers to uphold integrity, professionalism, and community engagement as they transition into their new roles.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony on Thursday at the Police Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt, Adepoju recognized their dedication and highlighted the new responsibilities that come with their promotions.
Adepoju’s appointment as Commissioner of Police for Rivers State has set a clear direction for the police force, with a strong emphasis on community-based policing and transparency.
The promotion ceremony was not only a celebration of the officers’ hard work but also a call to action for them to serve as role models and catalysts for positive change in the force. He expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission for supporting the officers’ advancements.
“Your new ranks signify the trust placed in you. However, with this trust comes greater responsibility. Rivers State faces distinct security challenges, and addressing these requires a commitment to community-centered policing,” Adepoju said. He stressed that the officers must uphold the highest ethical standards, avoid corruption, and always respect human rights in their duties.
The Commissioner emphasized the need for discipline and effective leadership within the force. He called on the officers to demonstrate integrity not just in their actions but in how they supervise their subordinates. “You now represent the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force. Your conduct will reflect on the entire organization,” Adepoju stated, reminding them that failure to meet these standards could lead to consequences.
