Troops from the 5 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized members of a notorious criminal gang linked to the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates in Kalaogbokolo, Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State. The tragic incident, targeting the staff of Daewoo Company, occurred on December 12, 2023.

The operation was confirmed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director, of 6 Division Army Public Relations. According to the statement, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence and involved a coordinated cordon-and-search mission in the area.

During the operation, troops uncovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle, one Fabrique Nationale rifle, one pump-action gun, two locally made rifles, three AK-47 magazines, one FN magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and thirteen rounds of 7.62mm (NATO).

According to the statement, Two gang members were apprehended during the raid. However, while being moved for further investigation, the suspects attempted to escape into the bush. Following a prolonged pursuit, the suspects were neutralized.

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for those involved in violent crimes and safeguarding the lives and property of residents in the region. “This successful operation underscores the military’s resolve to bring perpetrators of violence to justice and restore peace in affected communities,” the statement said.

The Army emphasized that criminals responsible for such heinous acts would face severe consequences, regardless of how long it takes to apprehend them.

The Division urged members of the public to continue providing actionable intelligence to security agencies, which plays a crucial role in enhancing operational success and ensuring regional stability.

This operation marks a significant step in restoring peace and stability in the affected areas while reinforcing the military’s dedication to combating criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.
