The Rivers State Police Command has announced the recovery of a firearm and live ammunition abandoned by a fleeing suspect and the rescue of a teenage girl allegedly drugged and abandoned in Port Harcourt.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko, disclosed in a statement that on December 14, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., an Inspector of Police on guard duty at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ahoada displayed exceptional vigilance.

The officer noticed a suspicious individual carrying a black bag and signaled him to approach. However, the suspect fled, abandoning the bag on the road during a pursuit.

Upon recovering and searching the bag, the following items were discovered:

One Brownie English-made pistol
Fifteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
One Eco Bank ATM debit card
One FCMB ATM debit card
A quantity of suspected charms
SP Koko stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and his accomplices. The Command assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security in the state.

In a separate development, the Command rescued a 16-year-old girl identified as Faith (other names withheld), who was allegedly drugged and abandoned at No. 3 Birabi Street, GRA, near Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt.

SP Koko explained that on December 13, 2024, at about 10:00 a.m., the Command responded to a distress call from a Good Samaritan. Operatives from the Olu-Obasanjo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly arrived at the scene and found the victim unconscious.

The girl was rushed to a medical facility for treatment. After regaining consciousness, police efforts led to the successful location of her parents, and she was reunited with them for proper care.

The spokesperson emphasized that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for this crime.

“This successful rescue operation highlights the Command’s dedication to protecting vulnerable individuals and combating crime in Rivers State,” SP Koko added.
