Renowned Nigerian music star, Davido, has weighed in on the growing trend of Nigerians opting to have their children abroad. Speaking on a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, he compared the practice to securing an insurance policy.
He stated that the trend is particularly common among upper and middle-class Nigerians. Davido explained that baby passports through childbirth abroad offers numerous advantages, including foreign citizenship, access to quality healthcare, and better educational opportunities.
“Giving birth abroad is a common trend among Nigerians. Apart from having better [medical] facilities overseas, people want to have their kids abroad to save them the hassle of applying for visas,” he noted.
Davido also shared his views on democracy in Nigeria compared to the United States, expressing his belief that Nigeria lacks the kind of true democracy seen in America.

“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” Davido said.
He went on to highlight his admiration for American democracy, contrasting it with Nigeria’s system. “What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so.”
Davido also revealed his personal reason for supporting Harris, stating, “To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.”
