Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that he has been receiving threats after openly criticizing the Nigerian economy during an appearance on the American podcast Big Homies House.
During the podcast, Davido cautioned U.S. citizens against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the country’s struggling economy, which he described as being in “shambles.” His remarks sparked a few backlash, drawing criticism from notable figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri.
In response to the criticism, Davido defended his stance, suggesting that entertainers like himself are the true representatives of the nation. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, he posted, “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!”

The backlash has reportedly escalated threats against the singer’s professional engagements. Davido claimed that there have been calls to cancel his upcoming Lagos show scheduled for December. Addressing the threats, he wrote, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
Also, Davido opened up about his enduring relationship with his wife, Chioma, during an interview on The Baller Alert show in the United States. In a now-viral clip from the interview, the singer was asked to give a shout-out to Chioma.
He responded warmly, saying, “Shout out to my wife and the mother of my beautiful twins, Mrs Chioma Adeleke. She has been my girl for almost 12 years. I love you and I got you for life.”
