The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major success in its fight against crime by neutralizing a notorious cultist and kidnapper, Gbarani Bume, also known as “Pelele”.
The suspect, a native of the Bere Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, was a member of the Iceland Cult Group, known for terrorizing the Beree/Tabaa axis of the local government.
In a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, states that on November 15, 2024, operatives of the Command, attached to the Bori Division, acted on credible intelligence and were mobilized to Luawii Community, where “Pelele” and his gang were attempting to abduct a site engineer.
Upon sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, Pelele sustained fatal injuries and was neutralized, while his accomplices fled with gunshot wounds.
The following items were recovered from the operation:
1. One (1) AK-47 rifle
2. Two (2) magazines
3. Ten (10) rounds of live ammunition
The Command has launched an intensive manhunt for the fleeing gang members to ensure they are brought to justice.
This operation underscores the Rivers State Police Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and combating crime in all forms across the state.
Investigation is ongoing to uncover further details about the gang’s activities. The Command calls on members of the public to report any suspicious individuals, especially those seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds, to the nearest police station.
The Rivers State Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard the lives and properties of its citizens.
