NEMA Delivers Relief Supplies to Flood Victims in Rivers State, Assures Immediate Distribution

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided essential relief items to flood victims in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Adebiyi Razak, the agency’s South-South zonal coordinator, presented the relief supplies to the Rivers State government during a handover ceremony held in Akanima, Ahoada West.

Razak explained that the items were part of the federal government’s intervention to support households affected by the flooding. “We have handed the items to the state government through the Commissioner for Special Duties, Sam Anya, and we are optimistic that the distribution will commence immediately since there is an already established flood committee in the area,” he stated.

Razak added that the flood committee had compiled a list of affected individuals and their locations within the camps, ensuring that each household—defined as six family members—would receive a comprehensive relief package. “The items include a 50kg bag of rice, one bag of garri, cooking oil, sanitary wares, camping foam, blanket, and bucket, amongst others,” Razak specified.

In receiving the items, Commissioner Anya expressed gratitude on behalf of the state for the federal government’s support.

He assured the public that the relief items would be distributed fairly and promptly to all affected households.

He also announced the state’s plans to mitigate future flood risks through large-scale dredging of waterways and clearing of drainage systems.

One of the flood victims, also voiced her appreciation, acknowledging the intervention’s potential to alleviate their hardships during this challenging time.
