AIHN Conference to Advance Industrial Hygiene Standards in Nigeria

The Association of Industrial Hygienists in Lagos, Nigeria (AIHN) is set to hold its 3rd Annual Professional Conference from November 7-9, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aiming to advance industrial hygiene standards across the nation. The conference, accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), will address pressing health and safety issues affecting Nigeria’s workforce.

Key themes at the event will include sustainable practices, regulatory compliance, and worker well-being. In addition to expert talks, the conference will feature CPD-accredited courses designed to equip occupational health and safety professionals with Continuing Education Units (CEUs), as recognized by the CPD Group in the United Kingdom.

This year’s keynote speakers include Dr. Nsikak-Abasi Ntia, a seasoned medical practitioner, and Nicole Green, CIH, the 2024-2025 President of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). AIHN President Ifeyinwa Anya, CIH, highlighted “The President’s Panel,” which will feature government regulators and industry leaders in manufacturing and energy to foster collaboration and discuss sector-specific health solutions.

Gloria Ayodeji-Fapohunda, CMT, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), noted that the conference aims to provide robust guidance on managing workplace health risks across Nigeria. In a unique corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the event will conclude with a visit to the Welders Association in the Rumuepirikom and Rumuolumeuni areas. This session will educate welders on the health hazards associated with welding, safe PPE practices, and the importance of regular health check-ups.

Founded in 2019 as the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industrial Hygiene Forum, AIHN has since expanded its scope, becoming a representative body for industrial hygienists serving diverse industries nationwide.
