Emekayi’s leadership qualities, consistency, and dedication to Rivers United made him an ideal choice for the role. His appointment is expected to significantly boost the team’s performance in the NPFL.

With Emekayi at the helm, Rivers United is well-positioned for a successful season, leveraging his expertise and influence to achieve their goals.

Rivers United’s head coach, Finidi George, has officially announced Temple Emekayi as the team’s new captain. Emekayi’s leadership role is not new, as he has been guiding the team since Nyima Nwagua’s departure and successfully captained the side in the first five matches of the season.

Emekayi’s appointment follows the transfer of Nyima Nwagua to Saudi Arabia’s Al Sadd FC. Nwagua’s contract with Rivers United expired, paving the way for him to explore new opportunities abroad as a free agent. His move was part of a significant restructuring at Rivers United, which saw 13 players’ contracts conclude simultaneously.

With Emekayi at the helm, Rivers United gains a seasoned leader and dependable centre-back. His experience and influence will be crucial in driving the team’s success.

Finidi George’s confidence in Emekayi underscores his trust in the player’s abilities, setting the stage for an exciting season under Emekayi’s captaincy.

Rivers United has officially confirmed Temple Emekayi as its new captain, building on his impressive leadership displayed in the team’s opening five matches this season. Emekayi’s tenure will be supported by Paul Odeh, appointed as assistant captain, ensuring a balanced and experienced leadership duo.

Since joining Rivers United in January 2019, Emekayi has established himself as a pivotal player, driving the team’s success in various competitions. His notable achievements include:

Playing a crucial role in securing the 2021/22 NPFL title

Leading the team to consecutive CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal appearances

Consistently delivering standout performances in NPFL and CAF Interclub competitions

Emekayi’s leadership and expertise make him an ideal captain, and with Odeh by his side, Rivers United is well-positioned for continued success.

This strategic leadership appointment underscores the team’s commitment to building a cohesive unit, leveraging Emekayi’s experience and influence to drive future achievements.

Indeed it will be difficult to fill the void left by the departure of Nyima as he was a Legendary Forward and a faithful Captain to the Pride of Rivers, Can Temple Emekayi Fill the Void left by Nyima Nwagua’s departure? well only time can tell.

The Pride of Rivers will face northern machines Katsina United in a matchday six fixture of the Nigerian Premier Football League(NPFL) at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
