Fubara: Rivers LG Poll Will Create People-Oriented Structure

Gov. Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed confidence that the upcoming local government election, scheduled for October 5, will establish a new, people-focused political structure in the state.

In a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara made these remarks while receiving members of “The Simplicity Movement” at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday. The group was led by Chief Sobomabo Jackrich, a former gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 2023 election.

Acknowledging the overwhelming public support from the group, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the interests of the state amid ongoing political challenges.

“We must defend the dignity of our state and ensure that the commonwealth of Rivers belongs to everyone,” Fubara said. “This is why our slogan is ‘Rivers First’. By prioritizing the state’s interests over personal gains, we can tackle the issues of crime, hunger, and unemployment.”

He encouraged voters to fully participate in the upcoming election, noting that the outcome would help guide his administration as it moves into the next phase of its development agenda.

The governor emphasized that the election will play a pivotal role in shaping the future political landscape of Rivers, enabling his administration to pursue its broader goals for the state.
