Some members of the Simplified Movement in Rivers State have expressed joy
over the recent announcement by PDP in the state not to take part in the
The forthcoming LG election fixed for October 5.

The Simplified Movement is a political movement floated by Governor
Siminalayi Fubara after the governor was disappointed by the manner in which the
PDP had handled the political rift between him and his immediate past
predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

A chieftain of the Simplified Movement who spoke on condition of anonymity
as he was not officially allowed to speak on it told our correspondent that the supporters of the governor are happy that PDP will not participate in
the election.

The state PDP had through its chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka announced the
party’s decision not to participate in the election, citing the ongoing
legal case initiated by the Tony Okocha-led faction of the APC, as reason.

Fubara’s supporter said not having PDP and APC in the race will give the newly
adopted party of the governor, the APP the free hand to win the election
without stress.

“We are happy that PDP has officially announced its intention not to
contest the LG poll in the state. When the Minister of the Federal Capital
Territory, Wike showed enormous interest in controlling the PDP leadership in
the state, we thought he would use the PDP to field candidates for the
LG election.

“With the recent announcement by Chukwuemeka, we are happy that PDP will
not participate in the election which will give us victory with ease,” the
governor’s supporter said.

In his quest to have a working relationship with the third tier of
government, the governor endorsed the following candidates to contest
the chairmanship positions on the platform of the APP:

  1. ABUA/ODUAL –
