Ogoni/Oyigbo Leaders Unite, Vow To Produce Rivers Governor In 2027

In a show of unity and determination, political heavyweights and stakeholders from the Ogoni and Oyigbo ethnic extractions in Rivers State convened a crucial meeting under the auspices of the Ogoni/Oyigbo Peoples Assembly. The gathering, held at Tai, brought together prominent politicians across party lines, including Senator Barinada Mpigi, Senator Magnus Abe, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, and Chief Victor Giadom.

The meeting resolved that the Ogoni and Oyigbo ethnic extractions, which fall under the same district, must remain united to produce the replacement of the current Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, in 2027. The leaders called on major parties to consider the Ogoni/Oyigbo for the governorship position, citing their significant population and contributions to the state.

In a communique read by Senator Mpigi, the assembly expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and affirmed their loyalty and support for the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom they described as their leader in Rivers State and an extraordinary achiever in public service.

The leaders condemned some actions of Governor Fubara and criticized Chief Edwin Clark for his perceived bias towards the Ijaw ethnic group, urging him to withdraw his negative comments against Minister Wike. They also declared their support for the 27 lawmakers led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, describing them as the authentic Rivers State House of Assembly members.

It bears mentioning that Senator Mpigi challenged politicians visiting the Aso Villa at night to publicly declare their support for President Tinubu and called on the President to contest the 2027 general election to consolidate his efforts to improve the economy.

The assembly vowed to fight for the education, rights, and empowerment of their people, declaring that their time to seek the highest office in the state had come. They urged unity among the Ogoni, Oyigbo, Ikwerre, Orashi, Etche, and Ijaw people to achieve their goals.

It is worth noting that the meeting marked a significant milestone in the political history of Rivers State, as the Ogoni and Oyigbo people united to chart a course for their future. With their eyes set on the 2027 governorship election, the assembly’s resolve is expected to shape the state’s political landscape in the years to come.
