A popular humanitarian philanthropist, Hon.Seineri Onengiyeofori George has sensitized the people of Ward One in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State on the need to vote only those who will have their interests at heart.
Before Hon Seineri decided to contest the forthcoming LG poll, he had embarked on several empowerment programs to alleviate poverty in his ASALGA hometown which ranged from financial support, free medicals, and scholarships to skill acquisitions among others.
According to the philanthropist who is now contesting for the ASALGA Ward One Councillorship position on the platform of the Accord Party, the time to draw government closer to the people is now.
He said his vision is to ensure better living for his people where their safety and welfare will top his agenda, noting that his people deserve better representation in government.
“We are doing this to see how we can liberate our people from suffering and the shackles of the oppressors. What we are doing here today is far beyond politics.
“It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in a situation where our collective rights and inheritance are being compromised.
“The welfare and the well-being of our people have been politicized by some group of persons who do not mean well for us as a community. “We came out today in solidarity to let our people know that this time will not be business as usual,” he said.
A few weeks from now, the people of the state will use their PVCs to elect the leaders of their choice at the LG level which will be conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission on October 5.
The financial autonomy given to local government administration by the Supreme Court would make LG election more competitive as the apex court decision had made the third tier of government not to be at the mercy of the state government again.
