MOSOP urges Fubara to probe missing 300M dollars meant for OML 11

By Mark Lenu

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to probe the alleged missing 300 million dollars paid to the state government during the tenure of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

The money was said to have been gotten from an out-of-court settlement regarding a dispute that involved OML 11 which the state government was a party to. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike has been accused of embezzling the money when he was serving the state as governor.

In a statement jointly signed by the President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke, and Secretary General, Alex Akori, the body maintained that the alleged missing fund wants to spark protest, hence the need for the governor’s intervention.

“The attention of MOSOP has been drawn to the alleged missing $300 million paid to the Rivers State Government in an out-of-court settlement between the Rivers State Government and the NNPCL, during the previous administration, over Shell’s stakes in OML 11.

“MOSOP calls on the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to clarify to the public the status of the $300 million allegedly stolen under the previous administration and take legitimate actions against all those involved if any financial wrongdoing is uncovered.

“MOSOP notes that OML 11 straddles between Bonny to Andoni, Ndoki, and Oyigbo in Rivers State and stretches to Asa and Ndoki in Abia state.

“The demand for accountability over the alleged missing $300 million is therefore not just an Ogoni affair and the Ogoni people should not be sacrificed or put at risk for some personal, political, and pecuniary interests.

“It is the responsibility of the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to recover any missing funds from the coffers of the state,” MOSOP said.
