PDP Governors Unite Against Wike’s Threats: A Call for Unity and Dialogue

In a bold move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has stood firm against Minister Nyesom Wike’s threats to destabilize their states for supporting Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. The governors’ response, issued through their Director-General, Emmanuel Agbo, condemned Wike’s comments as “empty” and “irresponsible.”

As the political battle between Wike and Fubara intensifies, the PDP governors have declared their unwavering support for Fubara, emphasizing the need for unity and peaceful coexistence within the party. Wike’s warning to the governors has been met with a resolute stance, reaffirming their commitment to working together towards common goals.

The governors’ statement highlighted the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, urging Wike to engage constructively with the party’s established mechanisms for addressing grievances and resolving conflicts. Hassan Hyat, Chairman of the Kaduna State PDP, cautioned Wike against destroying the party he helped build, emphasizing the need for unity and collective protection.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, under the chairmanship of Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohamed, described Wike’s threat as “unbridled” and “totally unacceptable.” They maintained their support for Fubara to take charge as the PDP leader in Rivers, noting that Wike enjoyed the same privilege when he was governor.

The governors stressed the need for the National Working Committee (NWC) to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State, emphasizing the importance of working together towards common goals rather than pursuing personal vendettas. They encouraged dialogue and reconciliation, highlighting the party’s established mechanisms for addressing grievances and resolving conflicts.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Wike will heed the call for dialogue or continue down a path of confrontation. One thing is certain, however: the PDP governors will not back down in the face of threats, and their unity will be a crucial factor in shaping the party’s future.

With the 2024 elections on the horizon, the PDP cannot afford to be embroiled in internal conflicts.

“The party must present a united front to challenge the ruling party and address the pressing issues facing the nation. The PDP Governors’ Forum has taken a crucial step towards unity and dialogue;” now it’s up to Wike and other stakeholders to follow suit.

In the words of Hassan Hyat,

“If the system fails, everyone loses. I don’t think it is right to say or do something that could lead to such an outcome.”

The fate of the PDP and Nigeria’s democracy hangs in the balance. Will the party emerge stronger and more united, or will internal conflicts tear it apart? Only time will tell.
